2018 and the Up [1 of 2]

2018 And the up’s and down’s of being me. (8 stone lost ,that’s over 50kg) part 1 of 2, instead of doing my Bi-monthly blog I had to wait as wasn’t allowed to blow about certain subjects that I really wanted to, Blast those Non Disclosers eh! It’s been a bit of a flyer I guess a real Doozy some might say…

To me it’s my normal life all over the place running around like a nut job, trying to find a bit of anything to inspire me, and be able to pass this on, as that’s why I started this blog after all. My motto of Don’t Diet just Change stands. We can and will have bad weeks, we have holidays, and birthdays etc. to go to and are part of, don’t worry about public weigh-ins when all you have to think about is making a little difference to your own self.

I’ve had another couple of injuries too, one slightly different being knocked off one of my bikes in San Francisco then flying home my injury flared up during the flight so recovery took a lot longer, At the start of the year a job hurt was on, I decided to leave the company i had been with for 9 years, we didn’t agree on a couple of things hence the signing of a few documents blocking me from writing during this period. I wanted to focus and took myself into an active HGV role, basically I have to move a lot more rather than spend 9-10 hours driving per day, not sure if I will stay in this role due to it being unfair (some staff get early days and some don’t) a case of if your face fits. I do ok but find it very unfair; of course, being me, I tell these the rules and how it should be, goes down like a lead balloon haha, it’s nice that the company wants to help everyone sometimes.

The cold start to Jan/Feb killed off many rides although not every ride check out my Stava link, We went out as a group several times, many of these we’re quite slow however, but it was miles I was getting in which was important, but the blooming Snow what the what I said, oh the snow, this came at the wrong time, I wanted speed training before my winter trip to America, what I got was hit and miss spins out, I really enjoyed my spins out I must say, fresh air and great company both in Dorset and Berkshire rides. Then 2 weeks later more snow I had to travel without knowing my new bike, I was gutted.

Back end of 2017 I decided to invest in myself rather than buy a newer car, A new bike would want to see me ride just as much if not more I had a passion, it had helped my change my life and I was now 7 stone lighter, (almost 8 now at time of writing) So I went to see a few high end bikes, some we’re branded by star names to sell with expensive parts, which didn’t really suit me, I wanted something very different, more research helped me find WyndyMilla they do sell bikes ready to roll, but they also do Bespoke. I had a budget in mind and soon got to double that which was about what I wanted to spend, just so friends and family could go HOW MUCH! , You brought a bike right not a car Jeez, still makes me chuckle. This meant the cat’s would have to cut back on something just to help pay for it, less fresh caviar probably might help lol. Don’t worry I still have a little left to spoil them too, investing in myself was after all the right move I have to hell and back with my mind being blown everywhere, mindfulness sessions are now part of my personal journey, I have blocked things from my past which I now have to revisit and invest time with this as just working on getting fit will not keep me strong, that’s why I don’t agree with diet plans they work on selling you stuff you can buy cheaper and they don’t care about your state of mind, they want you weak so you fail and come back to them time and time again, maybe I could work for one of them to learn people to look after the whole body not just the fat parts of it, which is why I went bicycle shopping one day, beginning of December I hit the button on buying my new bespoke stead with a delivery date given of 1st week in Feb, I was heading overseas in March sp prefect timing all round so I thought, let’s just say customer service was not a strong point from the person I was dealing with at the bike shop, it arrived late March giving me 1 day to ride it before putting it in a suitcase to go to America, I had noticed some knocking noise too, so once I landed I had to get this fixed before riding, so yes I had issues with my bike builder, something I’ll write about as a separate note as still in discussion over this issue and I’d like to sort it before telling everyone anything good or bad about them, I enjoy being honest when I write and will be happy for them to sort out this customer service fail with myself.

March: What a blast I had in March this whole process started because of this Month being almost 20 Stone 2 years ago I had to change and trying to lose a few stone before I hit 50 was the target, I decided to treat myself each year with a nice holiday away, but with a sting in the tail. Taking my bike or hire a bike and training whilst I holiday without missing out on trips for shopping and bars and eating well of course, All work and no play makes Davey a very dull boy. I don’t know the meaning of that word to the most point. I booked a trip to America last summer, flights only into Miami and out of San Francisco, nothing else was planned so I could do what liked a few days here and a few days there that’s what I like, busy moving around and seeing a little bit more of this world in which we live, after the Spanish mountain’s last year I wanted to push myself sooner this year hence March my 50th birthday month, I am lucky to be able to travel with myself and close knit friends that are happy to look out for me, Spring break was on in Miami so hotel prices went skywards so I moved up the coast a little to West Palm area just an hour on a local train, even with all my kit to tow it was quite easy to get around, A few beers and dinner sorted I slept well, up early to build the bike and get out into the sunshine, no snow here it was between 75 and 85 the whole trip. I was staying with Ellen and Terry they gave me encouragement to get out and have a blast around, showed me around in the car so I could go off on my own and get lost then find a spot I slightly knew to find my way back to a wonderful setting of the private estate, eating well and riding lots was important, I stayed a couple of extra days so I could enjoy my Birthday here in the sun,

Eating American portions was awesome for a couple of weeks, but that was a good thing because all I wanted to do was start winter training, get back on track and focus. So I did, I went on daily rides, the sun was shining it was jolly hot but I felt good, the distance wasn’t really that great I guess, but for someone like myself it was fine, 30 miles for a little fat chap is ok I think, anything over this is going to become my norm I hope. I’m aiming for my first 100 mile ride this ride hopefully with mates and also solo. On my own for 100 miles will be a personal reward, I have a plan for a epic race in 2 years’ time, so I’ll be hoping I can continue riding for as long as possible to aid me on my journey. So my trip to West palm was the best, but I had to move on… next stop is San Diego, California I know more sunshine!

My Journey. Beating Cancer & 20stone to a 3100 mile non stop race [Part 1]

My story with Cancer began several years ago, it was always something you heard about, something that happened to elderly or sick people I was to learn something about myself and fast. My 1st experience was with testicular cancer. I was in so much pain that I had to visit the doctor.

My Food

My Food: Your questions to me answered. The way I started to cook. As the numbers in my social media grow, I get a lot of messages about what I eat, More importantly what I did eat at the start of my journey which is probably more help than what I eat now, as I tend to stuff my little fat face before I do any challenge.
